Devakottai, Sivaganga District: Arulmalar Selvi /42, wife of Anthony Sami from Kadambakudi village near Devakottai, was admitted to a private hospital in Devakottai a few days ago due to cold and general health issues.

On January 3, following the doctor’s recommendation, nurse Vedammal (60) administered an injection, after which Arulmalar Selvi’s condition worsened within minutes, and she passed away.

Her relatives took her body and buried her in Kodungulath near R.S. Mangalam, Ramnad district.

On January 4, suspecting foul play in his wife’s death, Anthony Sami filed a complaint at Devakottai Town Police Station. Based on this, the police registered a suspicious death case.

On January 7, her body was exhumed, and a postmortem examination was conducted at Sivagangai Medical College Hospital by a medical team led by Dr. Senthil Kumar.

Based on the postmortem report, the Devakottai police filed a case against four people: private hospital doctors Ezhumalai (70), Halliskumar (39), nurse Vedammal (60), and lawyer Jayahariprasad (36), who allegedly threatened another nurse in connection with the case.

Meanwhile, the Madurai Bench of the High Court has issued an interim stay preventing the arrest of Halliskumar and Jayahariprasad until October 22.

The case is being actively investigated under the supervision of Devakottai Sub Division Deputy Superintendent of Police, Goutham.
