Chennai, Sept. 16:
Two senior citizens who had gone missing in Chennai were rescued by the Chennai Police Kaval Karangal team and reunited with their distressed families.
The Kaval Karangal helpline was launched on 21.04.2021 with a dedicated 24×7 helpline number 9444717100. The initiative rescues destitute persons and the mentally ill found wandering on the streets, provides them with medical care and shelter, and works with the motto: “Let us honor humanity – Let us safeguard compassion.”
Under the direction of Chennai City Police Commissioner Mr. A. Arun, IPS, and the supervision of the Additional Commissioner of Police (Headquarters), the Kaval Karangal helpline operates with police patrol vehicles and volunteers to extend immediate assistance to those in need.
Case – 1
On 13.09.2025, a 70-year-old man was found wandering near Teynampet Signal. Upon inquiry, he was identified as Arumugam (70), who had been suffering from memory loss and was unable to return home. He belonged to the Nerkundram area and had gone missing on 29.08.2025. His family had filed a missing person complaint at K-10 Koyambedu Police Station. After confirmation through photographs and inquiry, Arumugam was reunited with his son Ramesh on 15.09.2025 through the Kaval Karangal service.

Case – 2
Similarly, today (16.09.2025) morning, an 80-year-old woman was found near Nobel Hospital, Purasawalkam. She was unable to speak properly and was identified as Loganayagi (80) from the ICF area. She had gone missing earlier, and her family had filed a complaint at K-7 ICF Police Station on 11.09.2025. After verification, she was reunited with her son Solingam in the presence of officials through the Kaval Karangal helpline.
Service Impact
So far in 2025, the Kaval Karangal team has rescued 725 persons, of whom 128 have been reunited with their families. Since its launch in 2021, the service has successfully rescued and reunited a total of 1,419 missing persons with their families.
