On the night of June 19, 2025 (Thursday), a dramatic incident near the IOB Bank ATM in Kilpauk left the local community shaken.
That night, Minor Ali (39), a resident of Old Washermenpet, arrived at the ATM on his Yamaha Arrex two-wheeler with ₹2.70 lakhs in hawala cash to deposit. As he was about to begin the transaction, three unidentified men suddenly approached him.
Police, sir! Routine inspection…” one of them shouted.
Before Ali could react or verify, one of them slapped him hard across the face. In the blink of an eye, the trio snatched the cash and fled the scene with his two-wheeler.
Special Team Swings into Action
Once the complaint was registered, the Kilpauk Deputy Commissioner’s special task force swung into action. The team, consisting of
Tr. Saravanakumar (HC 26286), Tr. Pradeep (HC 27023), Tr. Purushothaman (Gr.1 50826), and Tr. Tamilarasan (50153), launched an intensive investigation.
CCTV footage, secret intel, vehicle number traces, and other digital clues led them to a shocking breakthrough.
Arrested Accused:
Kangoo Mani @ Manikandan (44) – Vyasarpadi
Johnson @ Ganesh Kumar (39) – Purasawalkam
Balakrishnan (44) – Pattalam
The accused used a TVS Jupiter (TN 12 BU 1413) and Honda Activa (TN 05 BU 3451) for the crime. The police recovered ₹40,000 in cash and seized the vehicles used in the robbery.
After interrogation, all three were remanded to judicial custody.
This incident once again highlights the need for greater awareness and caution in handling hawala and high-cash transactions. The swift action by Kilpauk police has been widely appreciated.
