In a first-of-its-kind initiative in Tamil Nadu, the Madurai District Police, in collaboration with Meenakshi Mission Hospital, has installed an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) at the Madurai District Police Office for the benefit of both police personnel and the general public. The device was inaugurated on June 27, 2025.
The AED is a compact electronic device that analyzes the heartbeat of a person affected by cardiac arrest and, if necessary, delivers an electric shock to restore normal heart rhythm. Designed for easy use, even by individuals without medical training, the device provides step-by-step instructions through an automated system.

Studies show that using an AED in cardiac emergencies can increase survival chances by up to 85%.
Additionally, recognizing the mental and physical stress faced by police officers and personnel due to workload and personal circumstances, a “Stress Buster Program” was conducted on the same day. The session was led by mental health expert and motivational speaker Dr. P.R. Subash Chandra, Ph.D. (Psy), at the Madurai District Police Office. Participants found the session highly beneficial and appreciated the initiative.
Both programs stand as exemplary efforts by the Madurai District Police under the leadership of the District Superintendent, reflecting their commitment to the well-being of both the public and the police force.
