Chennai, Oct. 7 —
In a major operation by the Tambaram City Police, 300 kilograms of banned gutkha and tobacco products were seized.

On October 7, 2025, at around 10:00 a.m., officers from the T-14 Pallikaranai Police Station, acting on credible information, conducted a vehicle check at Mylai Balaji Nagar, Velachery Road. During the inspection, they stopped a Suzuki Baleno car (Registration No. TN 07 CL 1674) and discovered 300 kilograms of gutkha and tobacco products being illegally transported.

Following this, the police arrested two individuals who were in the car:

  1. Satish (34), son of Sundarraj, residing at 8/1, Gandhi Street, Kannigapuram, Avadi
  2. Jegadeesan (40), son of Selvaraj, residing at 6, Rahul Gandhi Street, K.K. Nagar, Chennai

Upon investigation, it was revealed that the accused had been purchasing gutkha products from Andhra Pradesh and distributing them to shops in Pallikaranai and Perumbakkam areas.

A case has been registered against both individuals under T-14 Cr.No. 523/2025, U/s 123 BNS r/w 24(1) COTPA Act. The arrested persons were produced before the court and are being remanded to judicial custody.

The Tambaram City Police’s swift and efficient action to curb the sale of banned gutkha products is commendable. The seizure of 300 kilograms of gutkha and tobacco products and the arrest of the offenders stand as a strong example of upholding the rule of law.
