In observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse (June 26, 2025) and with the mission to create a Drug-Free Tamil Nadu, the Avadi Police Commissionerate organized a large-scale awareness marathon aimed at eradicating drug and tobacco use among youth.

More than 1850 college students enthusiastically participated in this awareness event. Members of Anti-Drug Clubs from 58 colleges took part, with 1215 male and 624 female students joining the marathon, totaling 1839 participants.

The 5-kilometer marathon began at the Police Convention Centre in SM Nagar, Thirumullaivoyal, proceeded up to the Tamil Nadu Special Police Mess (Barani Unavagam), and returned to the starting point.

The event was inaugurated by Avadi Police Commissioner Thiru. K. Shankar, IPS, who flagged off the race. Before the run, students took a pledge to stay away from drugs and contribute to a drug-free society. A special anti-drug awareness song was also launched by the Commissioner during the event.

Men’s Category:

  • 1st Place – Muthamilselvan: ₹5000 cash prize + certificate
  • 2nd Place – Vicky: ₹4000 + certificate
  • 3rd Place – Vishal: ₹3000 + certificate
  • 4th to 10th Places: ₹2000 + certificate (each)
  • 11th to 35th Places: ₹1000 + certificate (each)

Women’s Category:

  • 1st Place – Aishwarya: ₹5000 + certificate
  • 2nd Place – Vishali: ₹4000 + certificate
  • 3rd Place – Shalu: ₹3000 + certificate
  • 4th to 10th Places: ₹2000 + certificate (each)
  • 11th to 25th Places: ₹1000 + certificate (each)

Special Prize:

  • Lakshmi Priya, a differently-abled student, was awarded a special cash prize of ₹2000 and a certificate.

Certificates were distributed to all participating students by the Commissioner, who lauded their commitment and involvement. The event stood as a strong message against drug use and reinforced the vision of building a Drug-Free Tamil Nadu.
