Tambaram, June 30, 2025:
In a swift and commendable operation, the Tambaram City Police have arrested a suspect involved in a high-value burglary and recovered stolen property worth ₹70 lakh in full.
The case was registered following a complaint lodged on June 28, 2025, by a resident of Chitlapakkam at the Perumbakkam Police Station. The complainant reported that unidentified individuals had broken into her locked residence while she was away visiting her daughter. The burglars made away with:
90 sovereigns of gold ornaments
1 diamond necklace
2 diamond bangles
750 grams of silver articles
The total estimated value of the stolen property was pegged at ₹70 lakh.
A case was registered under Crime No. 241/2025 for offences punishable under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A detailed investigation was launched, with four special teams formed to crack the case.
These teams:
Conducted a thorough examination of the crime scene and lifted fingerprints for forensic analysis.
Reviewed over 100 CCTV footages from the surrounding area.
Investigated the movements of recently released convicts and local suspects.
Traced a suspicious auto-rickshaw seen near the victim’s house around the time of the crime.
Following these leads, the police arrested Arogyaraj (46), son of P. Kotandaraman, residing at No. 3/999, Kanni Koil 4th Street, Chitlapakkam, at 9:15 a.m. on June 30, 2025. Upon interrogation, the accused confessed to the burglary.
All the stolen items — gold jewellery, diamond pieces, and silver articles — were recovered in full.
Arogyaraj was produced before the Judicial Magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
