Coimbatore District Police Intensify Anti-Drug Measures Under the Leadership of SP Dr. K. Karthikeyan, IPS

In a major crackdown on narcotics, the Coimbatore District Police seized 235 kilograms of ganja worth approximately ₹70 lakh and arrested two individuals involved in the transportation of the contraband.

Acting on a tip-off received on July 9, 2025, the police team from Sulur Police Station conducted a vehicle check near Trichy Road within their jurisdiction. During the operation, they intercepted a Volkswagen car bearing registration number TN 06 R 1959.

Two individuals were traveling in the vehicle —

Satheesh Kumar (36) from Thoothukudi district

Vedhamani (27) from Vedaranyam, Nagapattinam district

Upon a thorough inspection of the vehicle, the police discovered 235 kg of ganja concealed inside. Initial investigation revealed that the ganja had been procured from Andhra Pradesh and was intended to be smuggled to another state.

Following their arrest, both accused were booked under Crime No: 662/2025 at Sulur Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act – 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(C), 25, and 29(1).

Police Honored for Swift Action

In recognition of the team’s swift and effective action, Dr. K. Karthikeyan, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Coimbatore District, visited Sulur Police Station in person and commended the officers involved, presenting them with certificates of appreciation.
