The Greater Chennai Police continue to intensify their crackdown on illegal narcotics. As part of this ongoing effort, a surprise raid in the Pulianthope area led to the arrest of a man selling banned Mava tobacco products.

Under the orders of Chennai City Police Commissioner Mr. A. Arun, IPS, and based on the guidance of senior officers, extensive monitoring and anti-narcotics enforcement operations are being carried out across zones and police districts.

As part of these operations, a special police team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Pulianthope, Mr. Raja, and the Inspector of P-2 Otteri Police Station, conducted surveillance on July 20, 2025, based on a confidential tip-off.

During the operation at Chellappa Street in Otteri, the police discovered that banned Mava tobacco products were being sold in small packets at a local water can supply shop. Immediate action was taken, and the suspect was arrested on the spot with 1.75 kilograms of Mava seized.

Following registration of a case, Manickam (aged 40) of Ponniamman Koil Street, Purasawalkam, was arrested. After investigation, he was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
