The Tamil Nadu Police Department conducts annual state-level shooting competitions to recognize and improve the firearm skills of its male and female personnel. This year, the competitions were held from July 24 to 26, 2025, at the Tamil Nadu Commando Force Training Centre and Firing Range located in Ottivakkam, Chengalpattu District. A total of 13 events were conducted under three main categories: rifle, revolver/pistol, and carbine/stun gun.
In the men’s division, 204 participants competed, representing nine teams. In the women’s division, 101 participants took part, forming eight teams. In the overall championship results, the Southern Zone team won the men’s overall championship trophy, followed by the Headquarters team in second place and the Armed Reserve team in third. In the women’s division, the Western Zone team emerged as overall champions, with the Northern Zone securing second place and the Greater Chennai Police team taking third.





Best Shooter medals were awarded to the top-performing male and female shooters in both the revolver/pistol and carbine/stun gun categories, recognizing their exceptional marksmanship. The closing ceremony, held on July 26, was graced by the Director General of Police and Head of the Force, Mr. Shankar Jiwal, IPS, who presented medals, certificates, and rotating trophies to the winners and delivered a congratulatory address.
The event was conducted under the supervision of Dr. R. Dhinakaran, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (Operations). Mrs. B. Vijayakumari, IPS, Head of the Armed Reserve, served as the chief judge, while Mr. J.P. Prabhakar, Superintendent of Police, Tamil Nadu Commando Force Training School, coordinated the entire event. The closing function was further dignified by the presence of senior officers including Mr. Sai Praneeth, IPS, SP of Chengalpattu District; Mr. Karthikeyan, IPS, SP of Coimbatore District; and Range Officers Mr. Karthikeyan and Mr. Senthil Kumar.
This competition provided a valuable opportunity for police personnel across the state to exhibit and sharpen their shooting skills and professional competence.
