In the Devasthanam area near Vaniyambadi in Tirupattur district, retired lawyer Shanmuga Ganesan resides with his wife. Their children, who are married, live with their families in other cities.
A woman named Latha (50), a resident of the same area, had been working as a housemaid in their home for the past 11 months. A few days ago, 39 sovereigns of gold jewelry that were safely hidden in the puja room went missing. Shanmuga Ganesan’s wife noticed the theft and informed her husband, following which their son, Siddharthan Gandhi Prakash, lodged a complaint with Inspector Baby at the Rural Police Station.

Based on the complaint, the rural police registered a case and questioned Latha, who gave contradictory statements during initial interrogation. Upon further questioning at the police station, she confessed to stealing the 39 sovereigns of gold jewelry and admitted to pawning part of it to cover her expenses.
The police recovered 16.5 sovereigns of gold from her possession. Latha was arrested, charged, and produced before the court, after which she was remanded to the Vellore Central Women’s Prison.
The incident has caused a stir in the Vaniyambadi area, highlighting concerns over domestic security and trust.
