In order to curb criminal activities in Madurai city, the police department has been implementing several measures. Under the guidance of Madurai City Police Commissioner Dr. J. Loganathan, IPS, security arrangements are being further strengthened in areas with heavy public movement.
As part of this initiative, a new police outpost has been established near the historic Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal, which falls under the South Gate Police Station limits. The facility aims to enhance public safety and prevent crimes in the locality. The new outpost was inaugurated by City Police Commissioner Dr. J. Loganathan, who also inspected the security arrangements at the spot. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) was present during the event.

Unlike regular outposts, this facility is equipped with advanced technology. Notably, state-of-the-art Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, enabled with infrared technology, have been installed. These cameras can capture vehicle number plates with high accuracy and instantly display vehicle details. This technology will greatly assist the police in tracking down offenders attempting to escape by vehicle.
With the establishment of this modern outpost near Thirumalai Nayakkar Mahal—a location with heavy public footfall—local residents expressed confidence that crime incidents would reduce and overall safety would increase.
Several police officials, community representatives, and local residents participated in the inauguration event and welcomed the new security initiative.
