Under the instructions of Chennai City Police Commissioner Thiru A. Arun, IPS, extensive security arrangements have been implemented across the city in view of the upcoming Diwali festival on October 20, 2025, to ensure public safety.

As part of these arrangements, Additional Commissioner of Police (South) Thiru N. Kannan, IPS, inspected the CCTV Monitoring Centre, new Police Assistance Booth, and Control Units set up under the Usman Road flyover and Ranganathan Street in T. Nagar on October 12, 2025.

For Diwali, special security measures have been put in place in crowded areas such as T. Nagar, Pondy Bazaar, Mylapore, Pookadai, Purasawalkam, and Vannarapettai, where large numbers of people gather for festive shopping.

In T. Nagar alone, 8 temporary surveillance towers, 4 police assistance booths, 2 temporary control rooms, 16 public address systems, 90 additional CCTV cameras, and 3 drone cameras have been deployed to monitor the crowd and prevent incidents of theft or crime.

To ensure public safety, 200 police officers and personnel, 100 armed reserve members, and 100 home guards have been deployed in shifts.
Two dedicated mobile numbers — 89399 77649 and 91504 72278 — have been provided for public emergency contact.
Additionally, 2 ambulances and 2 fire tenders have been stationed in the area for immediate response.

The Drone Unit of Chennai City Police is actively monitoring the crowd and movement through aerial surveillance. Plainclothes police teams, including both male and female officers, are also patrolling the area to prevent untoward incidents.

Furthermore, Additional Commissioner N. Kannan inaugurated and inspected the newly renovated Police Boys Club building and the modernized gymnasium with updated fitness equipment at the R-1 Mambalam Police Station premises.

The inspection event was attended by Joint Commissioner of Police (South Zone) Thiru P.C. Kalyan, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (T. Nagar District) Thiru S. Kuthalingam, Assistant Commissioner of Police (T. Nagar Range), and several senior police officers.
