Sirkazhi: In connection with the shocking double murder and robbery that took place in Sirkazhi in 2021, a criminal who had been absconding for three years has been arrested by the police in Rajasthan.
On January 27, 2021, four men entered the house of Dhanraj Choudhary, a Rajasthan native who was running a jewelry pawn shop on Thadalan South Street in Sirkazhi. They brutally murdered his wife Asha and son Akhil, and escaped with gold jewelry and cash worth Rs. 4.62 crore.
Out of the four accused, three were arrested earlier, and during the investigation, one of them, Mahipal, died in a police encounter. Following the trial, the other two accused — Manish and Karunaram — were sentenced to life imprisonment on April 22, 2025.
Meanwhile, another accused, Ramesh Patel (33), who had been evading arrest, was traced by a special team led by Inspector Kamalraj of Sirkazhi Police Station. The team traveled to Rajasthan, where they arrested Ramesh Patel, who had been hiding in Jaipur, on October 24, and brought him back to Chennai by flight.
The Mayiladuthurai District Superintendent of Police, Mr. G. Stalin, IPS, appreciated and commended the special team for successfully apprehending the absconding accused.
