Chennai, November 2:
An act of honesty and civic responsibility came to light in Kotturpuram, where a man found a bag containing gold jewelry lying unattended and promptly handed it over to the police.

Sivakumar (49), a resident of Pondicherry Road, Kotturpuram, has been living there for the past three years and works at Barclays Company in DLF IT Park, Nandambakkam. On the evening of October 31, 2025, around 5:30 PM, he noticed a plastic cover lying in front of his house. On checking, he found that it contained a gold necklace, a gold bracelet, a gold chain, and a small gold chain, all neatly wrapped in a blue paper.

When he inquired nearby and no one claimed ownership, Sivakumar immediately informed the police control room around 8:00 PM and handed over the jewels to the J-4 Kotturpuram police patrol officers who arrived at the spot.

Following this, the police began an inquiry to identify the rightful owner. On the morning of November 2, 2025, Kalai and her nephew Pradeep @ John (29), son of Kathiresan from Koyambedu, came to the police station, reporting that they had lost the jewels while carrying them for a marriage function in the Pondicherry Road area.

During verification, police confirmed that one of the gold chains had the name “John” engraved on its pendant, establishing rightful ownership. Subsequently, under the supervision of the Kotturpuram Police Inspector, the gold ornaments weighing 57 grams and valued at approximately ₹7 lakh were safely returned to Pradeep @ John.

The police appreciated Sivakumar’s honesty for handing over the valuables without hesitation, and the family of Pradeep expressed their heartfelt gratitude to both Sivakumar and the police department for their swift and fair action.
