With the objective of creating road safety awareness among the public, the Avadi Police Commissionerate, Traffic Police Department released the short film “Nil Gavani Nesi”, featuring actor M.S. Bhaskar, on 16.09.2025. The film was released by the Commissioner of Police, Avadi, Thiru. K. Shankar, I.P.S., and received an overwhelming response, garnering more than 10 million views on social media platforms. Following this, a Road Safety Awareness Reels Competition was announced, for which 70 reels created by college students and members of the public were received and evaluated by a panel of film experts, who selected the best entries.

Subsequently, the prize distribution ceremony was held today, 13.12.2025, at the Tamil Nadu Police Convention Centre, Thirumullaivoyal. The event was conducted under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Avadi, Thiru. K. Shankar, I.P.S., in the presence of the Additional Commissioner of Police, Avadi, Smt. K. Bhavaneeswari, I.P.S. (Headquarters and Traffic). Cash prizes of ₹20,000 for the first prize, ₹15,000 for the second prize, ₹10,000 for the third prize, and consolation prizes of ₹1,000 each along with certificates to 20 participants were awarded by the Commissioner of Police.

Addressing more than 500 college students who participated in the event, the Commissioner of Police emphasized the importance of strictly following road safety rules. He further stated that due to continuous traffic awareness programmes and various sustained initiatives carried out in the Avadi Police Commissionerate limits, road accident fatalities, which stood at 406 in 2024, have reduced to 281 in 2025, marking an approximate 30% reduction compared to the previous year.

As a continuation of the event, the Avadi Police Commissionerate, in association with Apollo Specialty Hospital, Vanagaram, organized a free medical check-up camp for Traffic Police personnel, keeping in mind the welfare of police personnel. The camp was inaugurated by the Commissioner of Police, Thiru. K. Shankar, I.P.S. During the camp, traffic police personnel underwent various basic medical examinations, including blood pressure, diabetes screening, dental check-ups, and other essential health assessments.
