In a major step towards strengthening public safety, as many as 105 modern CCTV surveillance cameras installed at 43 key locations in and around Thevoor, under the jurisdiction of the Sangagiri Police Sub-Division in Salem district, were inaugurated for public use on Monday by the District Superintendent of Police, Goutham Goyal.

As a key feature of this project, all 105 CCTV cameras have been fully integrated and connected to a Mini Control Room established at Thevoor Police Station. The integrated surveillance network has been developed using fiber optic cables in collaboration with local cable TV and internet service providers operating within the area. This enables real-time monitoring of all covered locations from a single centralized control point.

The CCTV cameras have been installed across vital locations including Kaveripatti area, Old Police Station limits, Ammappalayam, D. Pudhupalayam, Annamar Temple, Katheri, Vinobaji Nagar, Nathamettu, Alathur Reddipalayam, Chettipatti, Valayakkaranur National Highway stretch, Kallipalayam, Sivashakti Nagar and several other sensitive and high-traffic areas, totaling 43 locations.

Addressing the gathering, SP Goutham Goyal stated,
“CCTV surveillance plays a crucial role in crime prevention. Cameras help in quickly identifying offenders and also act as a strong deterrent, discouraging criminals from entering areas under constant monitoring. With the mini control room, police can closely watch suspicious movements and respond swiftly to incidents.”

He also appreciated the support extended by the public, social organizations, and cable TV/internet service providers who collaborated in successfully implementing the project.

The inauguration event was attended by Sangagiri Sub-Division Deputy Superintendent of Police M. Dhanasekaran, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Probation) D. Duraikumar, Inspector of Police D. Ramesh, representatives of various political parties, social activists, and members of the public.

The integrated CCTV surveillance and mini control room initiative is expected to significantly enhance crime prevention and ensure improved public safety across the Thevoor region.
