PALANI | January 13, 2026
With the auspicious Thaipusam festival of the Arulmigu Dhandayuthapani Swamy Temple set to commence with the flag hoisting ceremony on January 26, 2026, lakhs of devotees from Tamil Nadu and neighboring states have begun their Pada Yatra (pilgrimage by foot) towards Palani. To ensure a hazard-free journey, the Palani Subdivision Police have implemented extensive safety measures and regulations.
Security Infrastructure and Outposts
To facilitate safe travel within the Palani subdivision limits, a dedicated Sathirappatti Police Outpost has been established near Hotel Greenland on the Ottanchatram Bypass. Additionally, patrol teams have been deployed across various police jurisdictions, specifically focusing on the western borders to monitor and assist arriving pilgrims

.
Key Safety Guidelines for Pilgrims
The police department has urged devotees to strictly adhere to the following safety protocols to prevent accidents:
- Reflective Gear: To ensure visibility to motorists during evening and night hours, the police department has distributed over 100,000 reflective wristbands and luminous sticks. Pilgrims are instructed to use them without fail.
- Dedicated Pathways: Devotees must walk exclusively on the designated cement tracks built for them. In areas where cement tracks are unavailable, temporary paths marked with reflective ribbons on the left side of the road should be used. Walking on the main motorable road is strictly prohibited due to accident risks.
- Night Halts: Patrol teams are actively advising pilgrims to avoid walking after 10:00 PM. Devotees are encouraged to stay at the provided shelters overnight and resume their journey the following morning.
- Public Announcements: A ‘Public Address System’ has been installed at all entry points to the Palani subdivision to provide continuous safety instructions and guidance to the pilgrims.

Collaboration and Infrastructure
In coordination with local Panchayat officials, the police have ensured that streetlights are operational and adequate lighting is provided along the pilgrimage routes.
The Palani Police Department requests all devotees to cooperate fully with the personnel on duty and follow these instructions to ensure a safe and peaceful spiritual journey.
