In a surprise check conducted within the jurisdiction of Villupuram Taluk Police Station, the police arrested a youth from a northern state for possessing ganja and a large quantity of drug tablets.

As part of continuous efforts by the Villupuram District Police to prevent the sale and circulation of ganja and narcotic substances, a tip-off was received that ganja and drug tablets were being sold near the Hotel Annamalai bypass junction. Based on this confidential information, a police team led by Inspector of Police Mr. Selvanayagam, Assistant Inspector Mr. Leo Charles, along with other police personnel, conducted surveillance and a surprise search in the area.

During the operation, the police intercepted a person who was found standing suspiciously near the junction. Upon questioning and conducting a search, ganja and drug tablets (painkiller tablets) were recovered from the bag in his possession.

Following this, the accused, Halim Mulla (26) of West Bengal, was arrested. A total of 60 grams of ganja and 1,152 drug tablets (painkillers) were seized from him. Further legal action has been initiated to remand the accused to judicial custody.

The Villupuram District Police have warned that strict legal action will be taken against anyone involved in the sale or distribution of ganja and narcotic substances within the district.
